STORY TO REMEMBER
Saturday noon, enthusiastic start of the 6 and 24 hour races
The Self-Transcendence 6/12/24 Race also known as the Belgrade Ultramarathon took place by tradition in the Park of Friendship in Usce, under one might say the ideal weather. Cool sunny day brought joy and infused enthusiasm for athletics and self-transcendence.
Unforgettable moments took place on the sunlit race course when three winner-hero-runners crossed the finish line side by side, after 24 hours of continuous running, and took three national records carrying the flags of their countries wrapped around them. In a rush of enthusiasm, they spontaneously expressed their joy by doing 10 pushups along with their friends, counting them loudly!

Serbia Ultra Runners: Dalibor Danicic(left) broke the course record in the 6 Hours Race and Jovica Spajic (right) set the 24 hours national record for Serbia. Jovica already holds the national record in 100 km mountain running. These two runners together with Dalibor’s younger brother Dejan who also took part in the12 Hour Race, are making preparations for the 250 km long Sahara Race through the desert in 2014 by training intensively for up to 6 hours a day. Jovica has already run the Sahara Race in 2012, being the first participant from the Balkans, and achieved quite an impressive result. These boys are setting a genuine example of how the philosophy of self-transcendence can be applied in life.

Nebojsa Stefanovic, last year's winner in the 24 Hour Race, passing by the counters’ table establishes direct contact with his counter. Counters took turns tirelessly and most attentively recorded each and every covered kilometer. There was a lot of encouragement and cheering over there. The counters rejoiced with the runners and helped them carry on in difficult times. |
This year we were wholeheartedly assisted by the professionals from the medical emergency unit FLYING AMBULANCE. They ‘took part’ in the 24 Hour Race and did not leave the spot until the very end. They showed how goodness of the human heart and desire to help those in need stand above all professionalism and above every profit. Their presence offered great support to all the participants and organizers and for that, we deeply and sincerely express our gratitude.
Of course our two dear, regular and tireless doctors from Zrenjanin were also there, available throughout the whole race, ready to offer immediate medical care to the runners at any moment. |

As every year, Serbian army and police offered their support in the form of comfortable dormitories, where tired runners could change and take a break during the race.
... and these trophies did not stay on the table...
